Whether you're chatting with friends on the discord, engaging in a family zoom call, or playing some tunes, a microphone might work for your computer. You can use this on any phone apps. But what if you don't have one?
When you don't have a microphone for your computer, you probably have a smartphone. There is a solution to your problem: you can use your smartphone as a PC microphone, and it is very easy to set up.
We show you different ways to use your phone as a microphone.
How to use your phone as a microphone for PC
Using the WO mic is one of the best ways to accomplish this. With this program you can use USB, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to connect your smartphone's microphone to your computer.
Where the microphone. To join
It's completely free to use, has low latency and works like a standard microphone in any application.
Visit the WO Mic website and download the PC client and PC driver. Install both. Then grab the Android or iOS app.
Start the PC program. Go to Attachments> Connect and select the type of transport.
We will detail the steps for all the different options below.
1. Connect via Bluetooth
Windows 10 Bluetooth
First, enable Bluetooth on your computer:
Press Windows key + I to open settings.
Go to Devices> Bluetooth and other devices.
Slide to turn on Bluetooth. Your computer is now searchable by other devices.
Next, enable Bluetooth on your phone. The exact location of this option varies on the device, but it is somewhere in the settings (then maybe in the connection menu).
Connect your phone to your computer. A notification should appear on your computer to confirm the connection.
In the Windows WO Mic program:
Under Transport Type, select Bluetooth.
Select your phone from the Bluetooth target device drop-down list.
Click OK.
WO mic app on phone:
Tap Settings Cog.
Tap on Transport and select Bluetooth.
Return to the previous screen and tap on the play icon to start broadcasting your voice.
2. Connect via USB
This method only works for Android. Connect your phone to your computer using a USB cable. This will charge the phone.
Windows may prompt you to install a driver. If so, follow this procedure.
Next, enable USB debugging in your phone's developer options. Your phone should be recognized as a device after Windows.
In the Windows WO Mic program:
Under Transport Type, select USB.
Click OK.
WO mic app on phone:
Tap Settings Cog.
Tap on Transfer and select USB.
Return to the back screen and tap the play icon to activate your phone's microphone.
3. Connect via WiFi
Windows 10 WiFi
This method requires both your phone and computer to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
To set up your Wi-Fi network on Windows:
Press Windows key + I to open settings.
Go to Network and Internet> Wi-Fi.
Click View Available Networks.
Click the one you want to use, and then click Connect.
WO mic app on phone:
Tap Settings Cog.
Tap Transfer and select Wi-Fi.
Go back to the previous screen and tap the play icon. The gray banner message with the number at the end should appear at the top. This is the IP address.
In the Windows WO Mic program:
Select WiFi as the mode of transport.
Click OK.
In the Server IP Address field, enter the application's IP address.
Click OK to start using the microphone.
4. Connect using Wi-Fi Direct
For this method you need to turn your phone into a WiFi hotspot and use your network data. Use it as a last resort; If your computer does not have its own internet connection and the other methods above are not suitable.
First, create a mobile hotspot from your phone. The way this is done varies from device to device, but take a look at the settings and you'll usually find it under the Connections or Tethering category.
Next you need to connect your computer to this hotspot:
Press Windows key + I to open settings.
Go to Network and Internet> Wi-Fi.
Click View Available Networks.
Click on the hotspot, and then click Connect.
